Illinois children better off than 20 years ago, study says
CARTERVILLE - An increase in the number of preschool children and a reduction in child care alternatives are examples of Illinois Kid Graf 2008 report, in which it is said, children are better now than 20 years ago.
Voices members of the Illinois and others for children has considered the report of a press conference earlier this week in Williamson County Early Childhood cooperative. The report said 12 times as many children attend kindergarten now than 20 years. The report also argues that there is 67% fewer children in the care and replacement of more than 70 percent of children under the health insurance scheme, compared to 10 years.
Admittedly, there was a positive statistical report, there is also room for improvement in certain areas. Anna Jackson, VIC SIUC member and teacher, there is still much to do in the category child poverty. She spoke with Alexander County with a child and 57 percent of Pulaski poverty rate from 42 percent in the region to do what it can to a number of changes.
“We are in the 21st century,” said Jackson. “We can do better and we should do better.”
Roy Hancock, VIC-board member and president of the Illinois Community College System Foundation, said that in the economic security, Southern Illinois Chicago share similarities.
“Southern Illinois is probably much more, as downtown Chicago than in the rest of the country,” said Hancock.
The importance of pre-kindergarten was also discussed, including the Baby Talk programme that helps children and parents interact with each other and with other children and parents. The program uses techniques such as playing time, the actions of the municipality and excursions.
Lay Lynn Carter Cordes City is a mother of three and a grandmother of 5 months old. She said the program has done miracles with their children and grandchildren, including improving interaction with other children.
“I could not speak highly of the Baby Talk,” said Lapierre.
Williamson County Cooperative Early Childhood Director Linda Drest she says spending time with children is very important, but the positive impact of exchange is crucial for children.
“We work with children just one hour to a few days, a few months of the year, but the parents are with them 24 / 7,” said Drest.
