First Lady Patricia Blagojevich launches Child Abuse Prevention Month in Illinois
CHICAGO - First Lady Patricia Blagojevich today applauded the cooperation of the State and community-based initiatives such as the key to taking care of families and prevention of child abuse, “as governor Rod R. Blagojevich proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Illinois. In partnership with Prevent Child Abuse Illinois, more than 100 events in April to draw attention to the effective prevention in the cities and towns across the country.
“The children are safe, if families are strong, and we are working together to be successful parents,” said Blagojevich. “Whether it’s health care insurance or the quality of pre-Skipping begin education, Illinois, the state is more than ever with our communities. We hear about Illinois’ families, delivering solutions and proximity to the house to help the parents also stress the fact that this can cause damage to all children. Together, we have made real progress in the prevention of child abuse and neglect. ”
As cite just one example, the Department of Children and Family Services, more than 40 public and private partners in strengthening families, Illinois, a collaborative effort with training centres for Early Childhood to build protective factors for children. Learning by six networks to support early childhood education, more than sixty programs DCFS aid for early childhood staff working with parents to prevent children before it starts. In 2007, the Centre for the Study of Social Policy DCFS recognized as a national model for management and innovation in the implementation of the process of strengthening families. DCFS has been designed for their success in conjunction with early childhood education for children, in a proactive way to protect children.
“We can not wait for a child injured or fails to act,” said DCFS deputy director Velma Williams. “Strengthening Families, Illinois shows us that we are across borders programs and aid agencies families before a crisis occurs. Prevent Child Abuse Illinois is a long-standing partner with DCFS and many other countries, districts, towns and organizations in the community. Since its inception in 1990, it was the only national organization solely for the prevention of child abuse. Part of a national network, Prevent Child Abuse Illinois fulfills its mission through advocacy and public education, commitment and the communities in the implementation of effective programs to families and their children.

Text of the proclamation of the Governor follows:
WHEREAS, no child should have to bear mistreatment or abuse, especially in the hands of an adult. But the sad truth is that all too often, children are neglected and abuses committed by the very people, protect them, and
WHEREAS, studies show that child abuse and neglect can ruin the lives of the world’s children, and more drop out of school, suffer from drug and alcohol abuse and, eventually, the perpetrators of these acts and
WHEREAS, the solutions to discover child abuse and neglect requires the participation and cooperation of citizens, organizations and public agencies throughout Illinois;
WHEREAS, it is important that society learns to recognize the warning signals that maybe a child abused or neglected. These include: irritation for adults, assaults against children or adults; frequent or unexplained Prel acts or injuries, lack of self-confidence and poor hygiene and
WHEREAS, Illinois and effective prevention of child abuse have contributed to a decrease in reports of child abuse and neglect, reports 139720 during the year 1995 to 111742 in budget reports 2007, and
WHEREAS, programmes to prevent child abuse in Illinois are effective because the partnerships, by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Prevent Child Abuse-Illinois, Illinois strengthening the family, parents Care & Share of Illinois, and other public bodies, social security, service agencies, schools, religious organizations, law enforcement authorities, businesses and ordinary citizens:
